Thekkady is located in the south east of Kerala, virtually on the border with the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. It is best known for it’s spices & nature reserve at nearby Periyar.
We can arrange for a tour of a local spice plantation where you will see spices such as cardamon, pepper, & vanilla being grown. The town of Theakkady has numerous shops selling the locally grown spices at a fraction of the UK cost.
Elephant rides are also popular in this area & this can be arranged in Thekkady town.

The highlight of the area is the Periyar Nature Reserve. This is Kerala’s oldest & largest protected wildlife area. We would recommend a full day excursion to the park. In the morning a park ranger will escort you on a gentle trek looking out for elephant, wild boar, monkeys & the elusive tiger! In the afternoon, join the boat cruise along the lake where you will have the perfect opportunity to view the animals by the water’s edge. The scenery is wonderful & you will see a lot of wildlife – but don’t expect to see any tigers. |
